Here is some information that new and returning coaches will find useful for all age brackets. Game rules from Grays Harbor Foothills apply first, then US Youth Soccer Rules, and lastly FIFA rules. Always reference your coaches manual for rules, as we keep that updated so coaches know the current rules. If you have any questions or are not sure of something, please contact a board member.

Coach Manuals and Practice Guides

Age Appropriate TrainingHere you will find 8 weeks’ worth of pre-planned training sessions for age groups U6, U8, U10 and U12.  Each week includes four different activities and is specifically designed to provide training based on the needs of that age-group.  Additionally, each activity is in print and video format – coaches can see the training exercises in action with the videos and then print the diagrams out to bring to the field.

US Youth Soccer Coaching Manual: This resource deals with the most important years in player development, ages five through fourteen. Our philosophy of coaching youth soccer places great importance on age appropriate activities and creating a child centered learning environment. This manual contains a gold mine of information for novice as well as experienced youth coaches.

Fundamental Ball Skills: The key coaching points of each major technique in soccer are presented here. There is an example training activity for each technique. Major training concepts for learning specific physical movements are discussed. 

FIFA 11+The “FIFA 11+ ” is a complete warm-up program to reduce injuries among male and female football players aged 14 years and older.

US Youth Soccer Practice ActivitiesThe purpose of this activity guidebook is to give you the youth coach, an idea of what should be covered throughout the typical season. All sessions will key on development in a low-stress, fun-filled environment to give you an organized structure from which you may apply to the particular needs of your team.

Washington Youth Soccer Practice Guides: You tube video's from WA Youth Soccer showing practice guides and drills. Lots of useful information here for all age brackets.

Easton Youth Soccer: Great practice guides broken down by each age bracket and each week from Easton Youth Soccer. They have exercises and coaching guidelines for each lesson. Training Guides are a combination of Massachusetts Youth Soccer, US Youth Soccer, US Soccer and Tom Goodman's Curricula ideas all put in an easy to use format.

Massachusetts Youth Soccer Practice Guides: Session plans from Massachusetts Youth Soccer are broken down by each age group and put a fun spin on the lessons by having training themes to each one. Lots of other resources below the practice guides and even a training session for goalies.

 

Rules of the Game

FIFA Laws of the Game: Except as provided by US Youth Soccer or its State Associations, the FIFA "Laws of the Game" apply to all competitions sponsored by US Youth Soccer. Players under 10 years of age may play soccer in accordance with the rules of US Youth Soccer's Development Player Program - Modified Playing Rules for U10, U8, and U6.

Modified Playing Rules for U12 and under: Official rules for small-sided games from US Youth Soccer that preside over our games.

Grays Harbor Foothills U9/U10 game rules: Association game rules that preside over all U9/U10 game rules.

Why Small-Sided Games?: What does "Small-Sided Games" mean? These are soccer games with fewer players competing on a smaller sized field. These are fun games that involve the players more because fewer players are sharing one ball. Has recommendations for number of players on a field during a game.
