Below are some frequently asked questions and answers about our program.

Football FAQs

*When does the football season start and what should we expect?

The season typically starts in late July of each year with two weeks of tryouts/practices.  Practice during these two weeks is Monday thru Thursday from 5:30 to 8 p.m.  The first week of tryouts is in helmets and shoulder pads (Coach Decision) only and is mostly conditioning work.  There is no contact during the first week (Coach Decision). 
The second week of practices is in full pads (pads are handed out towards the end of the first week).  Players will learn to tackle during the second week.

Practice Restrictions:

a. Practice shall not begin prior to the 31st of July.

b. No team shall practice more than 10 hours per week prior to Jamboree

c. No team may practice more than 6 hours per week after Jamboree

d. Each association will determine their own conditioning program prior to full contact / stunting

e. A week is defined as 7 calendar days beginning Monday and ending on Sunday.

f. Playoff & Championship weeks, teams may practice 10 hrs per week.

g. All practices, must comply with CA.AB2127 per H.S concussion rule for 10hr weeks and be limited to 4hrs of full contact practices for 6 hr weeks thereafter    and when applicable.

Games begin in mid August and the season usually ends in early November.

*How old do you have to be to play?  What squad do I sign my son up to play on?

You can play as young as 6 years old, and as old as 14 years old.  Also please note that ALL 8th Graders must play 14u football.

 Player eligibility – Ages and Weights – All Players must meet the Age / Weight limits. The player’s age as of August 1st of the current year shall determine team level of participation. Player weight will determine position eligibility, i.e. skilled player, X-Man


  *How much does football cost?


Early Bird (thru 4/30/18)$300* (spirit pack included)

 Regular (5/1/18 - 6/30/18)$325* (spirit pack included) 

 Late       (7/1/18 - 7/31/18)$350*

  Two deposit checks are required as well.  One for $150 that is for an equipment deposit and one for $150 that is for volunteer hour deposit.  At the end of the  season, if all equipment is returned and 12 hours of volunteer time per player is completed both $150 deposit checks will be returned. 

What do I need to purchase for my child to play football?

Each player will receive everything they need to play football with the exception of 4 things.
1.  Cleats

3. Practice Jersey (If Spirited Pack is NOT Obtained)

Your helmet, pads, practice and game uniforms will all be provided by WJT.  Note that all equipment is to be returned at the end of each season.  All stickers need to be removed from the helmet before it is returned.
Name placards need to be removed from the jersey(s) before they are returned.
Each season you may purchase one or both jersey at equipment turn in.

When do we get our  "spirit pack"?

When will Equipment be handed out?
Equipment will be handed out a week prior to the start of practice.  Please have the kids try it on so we can adjust the first week of practice.   Equipment is also handed out at the WJT Shed  (Shed at the Scoreboard side of the field).

Cheer FAQs

How do I become a WJT Cheerleader?

WJT begins forming teams by holding a tryout clinic (where participants learn the tryout cheer & dance) followed by the actual tryout.  The clinics and tryouts occur in April.

Is experience required?

No, experience is not required. All elements required to tryout will be taught at the tryout clinic.The ability to follow instructions and learn choreography on pace will be key factors.

How old does my child need to be?

Our program requires children to be between the ages of 3-14 by August 1st.

Children 3 to 5 years old will be evaluated for placement (at the clinic only, they do not tryout) on our Mascot Squad. The evaluation is mostly based on whether they can pay attention for the full practice, follow instructions, and focus in a team setting when performing the choreography.
If your child is between the ages of 6 -14 by August 1st,  they will be evaluated for placement on one of our four sideline cheer squads. (8U, 10U, 12U and 14U)

When does practice begin?

The football season runs from the end of July-November, ending just before Thanksgiving. Most practices and home games are held at Woodcreek High School. Away games are at high schools within the region. In September the cheerleaders move most practices indoors. WJT has a facility located about 3 miles from the high school.

What is the cost and when are fees due?

Registration fee is $350 plus $100 for mandatory tumbling lessons.

If registering and paying early, you can save up to $50 per cheerleader! See registration tab for payment schedule and due dates. 
The complete new uniform cost is $507. This includes a skirt, shell, sleeves, cheer shoes, briefs, warm ups and 1 bow.  Uniforms are paid in full at the time of order.
Backpacks are recommended, but optional for $25.

Competition Season

Cheerleaders who complete the football season and maintain good attendance and attitude can try-out for the optional competition season.  Comp season begins in November and runs through early March.  There is an additional registration fee for comp season as well as travel expenses to competitions, including the Jr. Nationals Competition held in Anaheim (in February).

NOTE: If your child is involved in any other activity, it should be known that cheer is a huge commitment for the cheerleader and his or her family. Because of the nature of the sport, all practices, games and events are mandatory and it will be expected that cheer will take priority over any other activity with the exception of school. Prior to the tryout clinic there is a mandatory parent meeting that details what to expect for the season.
General FAQs

Can you explain what our volunteer responsibilities are?
Each family must volunteer for 12 hours (six shifts) during a season for every player or cheerleader in the program.

Volunteer shifts are picked at the beginning of each season and range from working at the front gate or snack bar to working a chain gang or PAR for a game.  Shifts at gates or in the snack bar are always scheduled either before or after your child's game so you won't miss the game.  Volunteer shifts are picked after the squads are set, but before the first game.

What is a Jamboree?
The Jamboree is a day where multiple SYF teams get together to run controlled scrimmages against each other.  It's like our pre-season in the sense that it provides the first opportunity to play against someone that isn't on your team.

What should I expect on game day?

Football players are required to arrive 90 minutes prior to the start of their game to weigh-in and warm-up. 

Cheerleaders are required to arrive 60 minutes prior to the start of their game to warm-up. 

 Game start times are typically:

 8u -   10:00 am

10u - 12:00 pm

12u - 2:00 pm

14u - 4:00 pm

Games typically run from 90 to 105 minutes.

Note:  If there is a change to a game schedule/start time, you will be notified in advance.
