LCS TOURNAMENT

The League Championship Series or LCS is a fall softball event for slow pitch league teams. Back in 1987 three of the Recreational League Directors got together and rewarded league championship teams with a fall tournament event. Created with a ridiculously low entry fee of $40 in 1987 the directors thought they would get about 40 – 50 teams to play over the course of the weekend. As it turned out, over 160 teams entered creating one of the largest softball events of the year and something that has endured for many years.

Today the LCS is in its fourth decade and is still one of the events the league teams look forward to every year. Many teams play in only one tournament per year and this is it! Divisions are established by the Recreational League Directors and players and teams are evaluated by the entire Greater Sacramento Softball Association members. Games are always played the 3rd and 4th weekends of September with the Coed Divisions first on the 3rd weekend and the Men’s and Women’s the following weekend. While most tournaments are asking entry fees of $250 - $330 or more, the LCS is at $95 for a double elimination format. Top teams in each division receive sweatshirts while the Championship Team in each Division takes photos with the Championship Belt. In addition the National Division Men’s Team winner gets to keep the belt for one year.

To enter is simple, but you have to win your local league to qualify. Talk to your league director for details as they have to approve your roster. Roster forms are available on our website or from your local league director. For questions call the GSSA Office at 622-9060.
