Starting in 2018, all youth baseball organizations will unify bat standards under USA baseball, making all current bats illegal to little league regulations. I would hate for you to spend your money for a bat that is used for only one season.

Current bat regulation highlights for tee ball, machine pitch, minors and majors (Rule 1.10): 2 1/4 diameter (NO BIG BARRELS) with a legible BPF of 1.15. If it has a composite barrel, it must be on the approved list on the LL International website.

If you have a bat currently and can get one more season out of it, that would be optimal. If you are a new player to youth baseball, my recommendation would be to use a teammates or find a cheaper lightly used bat with the above requirements at a second-hand sports store.

For our parents, I would love to see you get your money's worth out of your purchase and waiting until the fall and purchasing a new USA baseball standard bat will be best. Current estimation is that the USA baseball certified bats will be out for purchase in fall of 2017.  At that time, bats will be 2 5/8 diameter barrels and must have the USA baseball stamping.  These bats will act very similar to the BBCOR bats seen at the high school/college level and wood bats used at professional levels.

I wish everyone a very safe and wonderful Spring season.
