What are they saying about NOC?

"One of our favorite inspirational quotes is from Zig Ziglar which states ― "Positive thinking will let you do everything better than negative thinking will." Positive thinking is associated with positive actions and outcomes. You have hope and faith in yourself and others, and you work and invest hard to prove that your optimism is warranted.

When I think of the Norman Optimist Club, I think of this quote. From the tireless volunteers, coaches and athletes, NOC offers and environment of optimistic people dedicated to teaching our youth the disciplines of life that will carry on throughout their life. I am truly grateful to have had the opportunity as a kid, a parent, coach and supporter of NOC throughout my life in Norman. Thanks for making such a positive impact on our kids!" Bruce Morain

"The Norman Optimist Club plays a key role in the development of young athlete. I was the beneficiary of that as the Head Girls’ Basketball Coach at Norman High School for seven years. I have also been the beneficiary of that as the mother of two children who continue to be involved in Optimist programs regularly. The Optimist Club’s investment in Norman’s youth strengthens our families, our schools, and our community. Some of life’s greatest lessons –commitment, discipline, sacrifice, teamwork—are instilled through participation in Optimist programs. To support the Norman Optimist club is to support the future of Norman." Sherri Coale

"As a child that grew up in Norman, my earliest sports memories are associated with the Norman Optimist Club. The Optimist club and the sports experience that they provided were some of life’s most important lessons....Teamwork, commitment, perseverance, discipline and of course winning & losing. The relationships with both teammates and competitors that started on Norman’s sport fields continue to this day. I’m proud to be a product of the Optimist Club efforts and even prouder to be a supporter and a proud Optimist parent today." - Marc Heitz

"Organized Youth Sports Programs are critical to every community. We’re fortunate here in Cleveland County that the Norman Optimist Club has taken this important leadership role in ensuring that our children can enjoy and grow from a positive experience which is also grounded in the right values." - Joseph R. Castiglione

"Having had a child in the Norman Optimist Club programs, I have seen the positive influence it can have on each participating child, as well as the youth sports community as a whole. While teaching young athletes the value of hard work, self-discipline and dedication, the program also promotes a team concept in which young athletes learn the value of peer encouragement and the importance of being a team player. These lessons and values will not only be important in the future as athletes, but also as members of their community." - Toby Keith

"Both of my sons participated in the Norman Optimist Club programs. It provides a learning experience for the youth of our city both in sports and life lessons. I continue to support the Optimist Club and their commitment to our community. Having a positive environment for our young people to showcase their talents, work together with teammates and understand the importance of sportsmanship is a true asset for Norman." - Steve Owens

"My children practically grew up in the Optimist gym. I couldn't begin to count how many basketball games they played on the Optimist courts. We even played a midnight game every New Year's Eve to usher in a new year of basketball! Three of them earned full basketball scholarships to prestigious universities and one played in the NCAA national championship game with the Oklahoma Sooners. My fourth child did not go to school on a basketball scholarship, only because he chose football instead. They had a distinct advantage over children in other communities who did not have similar opportunities. Not only did they play ball, but they worked in the concession stands and earned income as referees during their high school years. The outside benefits are obvious - opportunity to play numerous games, job skills, earned income, just to name a few. But it is the other benefits, the ones you don't really see, that have helped make my children the adults they are today-- perseverance, hard work, selflessness, dedication, respect for authority, self-esteem, and sacrifice. Thanks Norman Optimist Club!" - Dewey Selmon
