P&R Month | Basics of Pickleball Clinic: July 11 - Summer 2025
Curious about pickleball? This beginner-friendly 1 hour-clinic is the perfect place to start! Join us on Friday evenings in July for a one-hour introductory session where you'll learn the fundamentals of the game—rules, scoring, basic techniques, and court positioning. Whether you're brand new to the sport or just want a refresher before hitting the courts, this relaxed and supportive environment is a great way to get started. Equipment provided if needed. No experience necessary—just bring comfortable shoes and a willingness to have fun! Led by Scott Pearson.

Play It Again Sports: Youth Baseball & Softball Camp: July 28-31 - Summer 2025
Smithville Parks and Recreation is excited to partner with Play It Again Sports - Liberty to bring an action-packed Youth Baseball & Softball Camp to our community this summer! Led by Coach Wheeler, a seasoned coach with over a decade of experience at the collegiate and high school levels, this camp is designed for athletes of all skill levels. Participants will focus on skill development in a fun, energetic, and encouraging environment, with engaging drills and expert instruction. With a proven track record of 20+ players advancing to higher levels, this is a fantastic opportunity for young athletes to sharpen their skills, build confidence, and have a blast on the field. Don’t miss out—join us for a summer of growth and game improvement!

Howl-O-Ween Vendor Registration - Fall 2025
Trick-or-treating is for pups too! Join Smithville Parks and Recreation and Clay County Parks on October 4th for Howl-O-Ween! No registration is required to attend the event - this registration is for vendors/businesses to reserve a 12x12 spot to set up a booth. This event is free to the community. Only requirement for vendors is to bring treats to pass out to trick-or-TREATing pups and be some sort of a business or organization that services dogs or animals! Spots are limited to the first 15 vendors. Vendors will be contacted with more details closer to the event. One booth per organization/business please. SPR provides pup cups (whipped cream), a photobooth, and a costume contest for all participants with prizes. The date has been moved up in hopes for better weather.
When: October 4th 11am-12:30pm Vendors can start setting up as early at 10am. Must be set up by 10:45am.
Where: Clay County Dog Park 17325 Old Jefferson Highway, Smithville, MO 64089 - vendor set up will be in the grass area to the left of the fenced dog park, and to the right of the paved trail. In the case of inclement weather, this event will be cancelled due to ground conditions in that area.
Fee: There are no vendor booth fees - please provide treats at your booth

Youth Soccer - Fall 2025
Kick off the season with our recreational soccer league, where kids of all skill levels come to learn, play, and have a blast! From preschoolers discovering the joy of the game to middle schoolers sharpening their moves, there’s a place for everyone on the field. Each player will receive a jersey and an end-of-season medal to celebrate their hard work and achievements. Parents, please provide socks, shin guards, and (optional) a soccer ball: size 3 for Pre-K through 2nd grade and size 4 for 3rd through 8th grade. Soccer goes by grades not ages, based on 2025 fall school grade. Can move up one age group but cannot move down.
Fee: $75
Season: August 25-October 26
Games: Each team is guaranteed six games played only on Saturdays | 9/20, 9/27, 10/4, 10/11, 10/18, 10/25 (two make-up dates 11/1, 11/8)
Practices: Each team will have one weekday practice (+1 optional weekend practice until games begin). Practices begin week of August 25.
Location: Smith's Fork Sports Complex, 1601 DD Hwy
Volunteer Coaching: The recreation sports programs are dependent upon volunteer coaches. If you would like to coach, please click the "volunteer" tab below! Coaches can choose three players, plus their own child(ren), to be on the team they coach. The teams' practice schedules are chosen by the volunteer coach around their schedule. If you would like to guarantee a particular practice day/time for your child. you are welcome to volunteer coach!
Registration: You may move up one division but not down. Only one buddy request per child will be accepted. ALL requests must be submitted at the time of registration to be considered. Requests will not be accepted after the registration deadline.

Youth T-Ball - Fall 2025
Smithville T-Ball league is designed for boys and girls ages 4-6. The program is a great tool to develop motor skills, promote physical fitness, and encourage social interaction. The coed program emphasizes safety, fun, participation, and teamwork. Participants are guaranteed playing time on the field and at bat. Jersey, hat, and end-of-season medal included - parents will provide a glove and tennis shoes - cleats are not necessary.
Fee: $55
Season: 9/5-10/24
Games: Each team is guaranteed 4 games. Games are held on Fridays only: 9/19, 9/26, 10/3, 10/10 (two make-up dates 10/17 and 10/24) Games are held at Heritage Park.
Practices: Two practices are guaranteed before games begin. Practices are held on Fridays only on 9/5, 9/12. Practices are dropped once games begin. Practices will be held at Heritage Park and Smith's Fork Park.

Youth Volleyball - Fall 2025
SPR recreation volleyball is designed as a developmental, recreational league. Teams are balanced with mixed abilities. This co-ed rec league for 3rd-4th and 5th-6th graders. Jersey and end of season medals will be provided. Parents will need to provide clean shoes and athletic pants/shorts. Knee pads aren't required but are recommended. Some travel to Platte City and Kearney for games.
Fee: $75
Season: August 25-October 22
Games: Each team is guaranteed six games played only on Wednesdays. There will be some travel to Platte City and Kearney for games. Game days 9/17, 9/24, 10/1, 10/8, 10/15, 10/22
Practices: Teams will practice once per week, held on Mondays only between 5:30-8:30PM. Practices will begin August 25. No practice on Labor Day 9/1.
Location: Practices held at Smithville High School. Games at SHS, Platte City Middle School, and Kearney High School.
