Montgomery County Youth Basketball (MCYB) is designed to 

  • Allow young people to fall-in-love with the game of basketball
  • Allow young people to have fun in competition
  • Allow young people to develop confidence and interest in athletics
  • Allow our community to increase the pride they have in our school system, through supporting their children in athletics

Frequently Asked Questions
  • When will registration open / close?: Registration will open Friday, September 22nd at 8:00 AM. It will close on Monday, October 9th at 8:00 PM.
  • Will you have in-person registration?: Yes. Cash or check, y. There will be two dates. Wednesday, September 27th, 5:30-7:30pm - lobby of the MCHS Auditorium. Monday, October 9th, 5:30-7:30pm - lobby of MCHS Arena.
  • When will practices start?: On or after Tuesday, October 17th. Practices will be organized and assigned by your child's coach.
  • When will games start?: Thursday, November 2nd.
  • When will games be played (days / times): Games will be played during the week in the evenings at the elementary schools. This schedule will be dependent on weather and school calendars.
  • What about uniforms?: With your registration, each child will receive a reversible jersey. Jerseys will be in school colors with school name and jersey number embellished on each side.
  • How will the games rules be set?: We will use the USA Basketball Model (https://www.usab.com/play/youth-basketball-guidelines#Appendix_A) for our guidelines for the most part, including ball size and goal height.
  • Will games have officials?: Yes. Two officials for each age division game.
  • What about coaches?: Coaches will be volunteers from our community. Each coach will be subject to a background check through parks & recreation.
  • What if I've never coached, but want to?: We will have free coaching clinics and training. Don't overthink this:)!
  • What if my child has never played?: No worries! This league will focus on basic skill development in practices and games.
  • Will there be a tournament?: Yes! We don't have the details worked out yet, but we are planning on having a MCYB Championship for each age division.
  • What if my child plays Upward?: We want them to continue to play Upward! our calendar will compliment theirs. Your child will be able to play both!
  • Who is eligible to play?: Each player has to be enrolled in one of Montgomery County's elementary schools, including CTS. Homeschooled children will be considered only if enough interest exists.
  • What if my child has a disability?: Depending on your child's disability, Montgomery is organizing a special olympics league as well. We do not have information on this at this time.
