Adult Learn to Row Program - Summer 2026

River City Rowing Club invites adults with no rowing experience to join a Learn to Row class and experience this engaging sport! This class introduces the fundamentals of rowing in an 8-person rowing shell, focusing on the technique and execution of the sweep rowing stroke, rowing commands, boat handling, and the intricacies of crew dynamics. We also use rowing machines to practice technical concepts with group instruction and individual attention. Smaller boats are sometimes used based on the number of people at practice.

The program progressively challenges new rowers, resulting in a dramatic learning curve. Courses are co-ed and coached in a supportive and slightly competitive team manner—additional information on the RCRC website.

Presentational Private/Small Group Lessons visual

Private/Small Group Lessons - Annual 2025

Up to four participants, any ages and experience levels

Whether you want a few private lessons to focus on a specific technical element, have a small group of friends seeking a fun new experience, or just prefer working one-on-one, private rowing coaching is available. RCRC has several coaches who are approved to provide individual or small group (up to 4 participants) coaching for club members and community members of all skill levels. Currently our coaches have infrequent availability for private lessons; if you are new to rowing, we HIGHLY recommend signing up for a Learn to Row class, over trying to schedule private lessons.

Setting up a Lesson

  • Community members: first submit a Private Lesson Request/Information form. A coach will contact you to schedule a lesson when they have availability. Please do not register and pay for a lesson until you have a lesson scheduled.
  • RCRC members: to schedule a lesson, directly email the coach you want to work with, then pay for your lesson by clicking below.

Rates

  • General Community, up to four participants: $65 per hour
  • RCRC Members: apply the membership code to receive the member rate. Email asstdirector@rivercityrowing.org if you need the code.
