FAQs

Our Club

The Erie Wrestling club was established in 2011. We teach and compete in Folk-style wrestling. Our club is open to all kids Pre-K through 8th grade.

Location

Our practices are held in the wrestling room at Erie High School.

Tournaments are held at various locations throughout the front range.

Season

The Folkstyle wrestling season typically begins in the third week of October and runs through the end of February. Registration usually opens in September. Folkstyle is the primary season and the most common style of wrestling in the U.S., from youth levels through college. Whether your wrestler is brand new or experienced, Folkstyle is a great fit.

The Freestyle and Greco-Roman season runs from April through the end of May, with registration typically opening in February. These are international styles of wrestling, featured in the Olympics, and are best suited for intermediate to advanced Folkstyle wrestlers looking to expand their skills.

Practices

Practices are separated by grade level:

  • White: Pre K - 2nd Grade
  • Orange: 3rd - 5th Grade
  • Black: 6th - 8th Grade

We will sometimes adjust a wrestler up or down a group to ensure they are working with practice partners that match their abilities.

The practice schedule can be found on the Calendar.

Practice is the most important step on the road to success. It is very important that every wrestler attend as many practices as possible. We cover quite a bit of technique and drills in the very beginning of the season. Parents are responsible for conveying the importance of appropriate behavior during practice. This will allow coaches to focus on technique and make the most of everyone's time. It is very easy for athletes to fall behind if they regularly miss practice.

Tournaments

For tournaments we participate in the Peak2Peak Wrestling League.

Tournaments are on Saturdays starting in November. You can find a full list of the tournaments we will be participating in on the Tournaments page.

Wrestlers are seperated into age groups, 4U, 6U, 8U, 10U, 12U and 15U (not in High School). A wrestlers age is determined by how old they were on Sept. 1st of that year.

Most tournaments we compete in use a Madison weight system, meaning wrestlers are grouped with other wrestlers who are nearest in weight to them. There are no predetermined weight classes. Regional and State Championships do have set weight classes, but they vary each year. Those classes will be provided once they have been determined by the league.

Weigh-ins for most tournaments will be conducted at practice. Some larger tournaments like Regionals and State do have mandatory weigh-ins the night before the tournament at specific locations.

The cost for most tournaments is $25 and needs to be summitted via the tournament registration options in the team store. Once a payment is received The club will register the wrestler for the tournament.
