Code of Conduct for Players, Parents, Spectators & Coaches
Introduction
Godfrey Parks and Recreation (GPRD) is a community organization that sponsors youth leagues emphasizing fun, fair play and sportsmanship. The mission of GPRD is to offer the maximum amount of opportunity to as many participants as possible. To better achieve this goal, we are outlining a Code of Conduct for all parents, coaches and players involved in GPRD League play.
The Code of Conduct is a written contract between the parents, players and coaches to abide by the rules and regulations of the game as well as maintain a cooperative attitude and uphold the ideals of fair play and sportsmanship. This contract is more than just paper; it is the essence of our goals and objectives and thus, adherence to it is of primary importance.
Children who wish to play, parents who want their children to play, and coaches who wish to coach on teams sanctioned by GPRD are required to agree to and sign this Code of Conduct.
Coaches Code of Conduct
Coaches will remain unconditionally supportive of GPRDs commitment to the ideals of good sportsmanship, team play, honesty, loyalty, courage and respect for authority. Likewise, coaches will remain sensitive to the physical and emotional well-being of the players.
All Coaches Will....
- Be a positive role model and create a positive learning experience for all who participate.
- Conduct myself in the highest degree at all times, lead by example and demonstrate good sportsmanship, fair play and teach integrity of the game.
- Conduct themselves in a manner that best serves the interest of the players, parents and GPRD.
- Encourage good sportsmanship by demonstrating positive support for all players, coaches, and officials at every game, practice or other youth sports events.
- Remember that I am a YOUTH COACH, and that the game is for the PLAYERS.
- Place the emotional and physical well-being of my players ahead of a personal desire to win.
- Do my best to make this sport FUN for all my players.
- Do my best to provide a safe playing environment for my players
- Remember to treat every player as an individual and be sensitive to each player’s feelings.
- Be knowledgeable in the rules of each sport that I coach and I will teach and follow these rules.
- Ask their players to treat other players, coaches, fans and officials with respect regardless of race, sex, creed or ability.
- Understand if a player, coach or spectator is removed from the facility for inappropriate behavior, the team they are affiliated with will have to forfeit the game and the person(s) removed will not be able to return for the team’s next game.
- Pledge to live up to the standards set by Godfrey Parks and Recreation and the Coaches’ Code of Conduct.
- Agree that by not fulfilling any portion of my Coaching Responsibilities as outlined, I will forfeit my right to the Godfrey Parks and Recreation Coaching Voucher and the privilege of volunteering as a coach.
- Be drug and alcohol free while at and GPRD event.
All Coaches Will Not....
- Ridicule or demean any other players, coaches, opponents, umpires, league officials or spectators.
- Argue with opponents, players, or spectators on any playing field or during any team function.
- Tolerate behavior that endangers the health or well-being of a child.
Conclusion
GPRD/Village of Godfrey reserves the right to impose penalties, including, without limitation, player, coach, and/or guardian/family/friends game suspensions, dismissal from the team, suspension or revocation of GRPD league membership for serious or repeated violation of the Code of Conduct or other conduct deemed to be harmful to GPRD. By signing this agreement, you assume responsibility for yourself, your immediate family , and any guest/family members in attendance for your child participating withing the GPRD league.
